I’m definitely on mute eating my last brisket taco leftover from lunch.

I’m getting tired of all these new apps which are supposed to make my life easier. Teams is the latest one.

Now my options for communicating are by e-mail, phone, Bridget, WebEx, Jabber, or Teams. The last two I’m supposed to keep active on my desktop so that people can see whether or not I’m online and “chat” with me whenever they want. The first two I can ignore, the middle two are activated only when I need them, but those last two are practically spyware. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but they certainly give my coworkers way more access to me than I really want.

I hear that, the requirement to have an IM client up & running is weird and intrusive. I’m very lucky in that I’ve always worked for people that left me alone to do my job when and how I see fit.

In my case, Teams has been great because we don’t have to comply with some of our usual rules and that’s made life a *lot* easier for all of us. It’s way better than WebEx or any of the other major conferencing platforms that were in use pre-pandemic with respect to ease of use and features IMHO.

During the last meeting I was in this blurry zone of half-consciousness where I was hearing the meeting going on but I was basically asleep.

Virtual meetings aren’t great but the silver lining is that if I have nothing to say or add (which I didn’t in this particular meeting) I can nap/sleep through presentations unlike an in-person meeting.
